Wow! What a city!

I will breifly tell you about our day yesterday, and then update you on Nolan's visit with Dr. Foster!

We had a great day yesterday visiting the Aquarium. The boys really wanted to go Whale watching, but the weather was not cooperative of that! The aquarium is huge! Lots of whales, penguins (my fave), and sea creatures. We also saw an IMAX movie about Dolphins and Whales. From there we ate wonderful seafood at a restaurant on the Harbor. We walked through the Quincy Market, and then headed back to the hotel! It was only 55 degrees, and COLD!

Today was going to be a whole different day! We started off early to get to MERSI clinic for Nolan's appointment! They started off with the normal eye pressure check and general vision check! From there we were taken to a room, and met with a wonderful Dr. from India! She went to school in Bombay, and is doing her fellowship through Harvard. She was very thorough. After that Dr. Foster came in, and looked over Nolan's info and requested a few tests. One being an OCT, and the other being a flourasine angiogram. He then reviewed the results right there, and gave his recommendation. Nolan is being recommended to have a vitrectomy and laser cryo on his left eye, along with chemotherapy drugs to help cure the disease! With 2 years of taking this med, and being free of "flare-ups" would put him in remission!!! The results from this medication in children with Uveitis has had wonderful outcomes!
Dr. Foster has said that Nolan has had wonderful care in NM, but the goal is to CURE the disease, and steroid injections has not worked to this point, so time to try something new!
Nolan's Rheumatologist will monitor this drug, and he will need lab work every 6 weeks to check his liver, enzymes, and white count! He will also need to undergo some lab tests and chest x-ray once he gets back home.

The afternoon followed with the Uveitis Conference, which was overwhelming. We listened to a pediatric phsychiatrist sharing about helping children cope with a chronic illness. It was extremely informative, but very overwhelming! Sara is wiped with all the info that has been shared with her today!

Nolan is ready for these chemo pills, cause then the disease could be cured and just maybe he won't have to worry about this anymore. That is the prayer, so pray for 2 years without flare ups for him, and keep him from having any complications from the chemo drugs!

We are going to call it a night! We are planning on seeing a RED SOX game tomorrow, and then we all head home on Monday. We will try to update tomorrow night or Monday morning if possible!

Thank you again for your continued support for Nolan and the family!

Over and Out-Nolan's Annie!
